Goodrich Roofing has years of experience in dealing with roofing issues such as roof repair or replacement. In this post, we provide the answers to frequently asked questions.
How will you know when it’s time to replace an asphalt shingle roof? What are the signs that I should look for?
If your roof has been around for more than 20 years, then it is due for a replacement. Note that replacement is not limited to old roofs. The best way to determine if you need to replace your roof is to inspect it at least twice a year. You can use binoculars to see the condition of your asphalt shingles. If you see curled, broken, or missing shingles, then it’s time to replace them.
You can also go to your attic in a sunny day while the lights are off to inspect your chimney’s underside or stack vent. If you see light coming through pinholes, then it means that your roof is not in good shape. Fortunately, we offer general roof maintenance services and roof replacement. We provide asphalt shingle roofing in New Mexico, which can withstand strong winds and severe weather conditions.
We have a major leakage problem and we plan to get a new roof. What is the underlayment that can best protect the valleys in my roof from leaking? Would it be metal flashing, ice guards, or double rolled shingles?
First, your roofers should put an ice and water shield over the entire roof. These will prevent water from penetrating the ceiling beneath your roof’s shingles. You should cover the valleys with metal flashing and weaving. We also recommend putting two layers of ice and water shield on the lower portion of the roof, around the chimneys and besides the dormers. We can also inspect your home to locate the source of the leak. Common culprits would be faulty shingle underlayment and clogged gutters. If it is a roof issue, we can replace it with a new roofing system.
Rest assured that our installation will be seamless, thanks to our many years of experience. We can also help maintain, repair, or replace your gutters with superior our superior products.
Everything being equal, which roof will last longer? One with a steep pitch or one with a shallow pitch?
A steep roof is less likely to collect leaves and other forms of debris. Leaves and other debris can trap moisture, which is bad for your roof. On the other hand, if it is on an unprotected area and is facing south, it will become vulnerable to the sun’s rays. Overall, the side that is facing the brunt of a storm is more vulnerable than the other side. When you work with us, you can be sure that your New Mexico roofing will be durable enough to resist adverse conditions.
