In 2010, GAF established the Certified Green Roofer™ program to promote the undisputed benefits of shingle recycling. Developed in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council and the Construction Materials Recycling Association, it encourages contractors to be environmentally responsible. Since its launch, the program has the increased the estimated rate of recycling for shingles from 10% in 2010 to 28% in 2015.
Not all contractors qualify to become a member of the Certified Green Roofer program, though. The company must pass a written test, complete a Sustainability Assessment, and complete approved Green Roofer training before being admitted to the program. Only the roofers who are serious about sustainability make the cut.
As a proud GAF Certified Green Roofer in the region, Goodrich Roofing wants to explain the practical benefits of hiring one for your project:
Turning Your Old Roof Into a New Road
Certified Green Roofers help divert old roofing materials away from landfills. Instead of letting construction debris go to waste, we give them to recyclers, who then convert them into repurposed asphalt for paving. And since recycled pavement is reclaimable multiple times, our green efforts help create a virtuous cycle that preserves landfill space and conserves natural resources.
Earning You LEED® Points Environmentally responsible roofers recommend shingle recycling to help homeowners pass green building certification programs like LEED®. Considering most recyclers provide documentation for recycling, you could earn one point if your project’s recycling rate is more than 50%.
Helping the Economy
The recycling industry is growing larger year-over-year. It generates jobs, reduces dependence on foreign oil, and saves taxpayers money. Hiring a GAF Certified Green Roofer is a simple gesture to help strengthen one of the few industries that make the world a healthier place.
Apart from having the GAF Certified Green Roofer designation, our company is only one of the state’s few roofers certified by multiple manufacturers. We also have a long history of roofing excellence dating back to 1946, and are fully licensed and adequately insured.
