Federal Tax Credits: Roofing
For this year, you can recover as much as 10% of your costs excluding installation fees. Depending on your project, this can reach up to $500. To qualify, your new, energy-efficient roof should be installed on your existing home, which should also be your principal residence. Even if you had your roof installed a couple of years ago or earlier, you may still be eligible! The federal tax rating for roofing covers the period from January 1, 2011 until December 31, 2016.

According to the energystar.gov website, some eligible roofs are “asphalt roofs with appropriate cooling granules” and “metal roofs with appropriate pigmented coatings.” These should meet ENERGY STAR standards.
